Bible Verses for Anxiety and Overthinking
Your body is tired but your brain is running laps — replaying the conversation, pre-living the disaster, solving problems that don’t exist yet. Scripture doesn’t scold the anxious mind. It offers it somewhere else to go.
Anxiety and overthinking loop the same worries on repeat. Philippians 4:6 gives the pattern interrupt: “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” And Isaiah 26:3 promises, “You will keep in perfect peace the steadfast of mind.”
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
You will keep in perfect peace the steadfast of mind, because he trusts in You.
Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today has enough trouble of its own.
When anxiety overwhelms me, Your consolation delights my soul.
Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not be afraid.
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.
Cast your burden upon the LORD and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous be shaken.
Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will surely help you; I will uphold you with My right hand of righteousness.
I sought the LORD, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears.
Seven verses to steady a racing mind
Keep these where the spirals happen — your phone’s lock screen, the bathroom mirror: Philippians 4:6-7 (pray it instead of replaying it), Isaiah 26:3 (perfect peace for a steadfast mind), 1 Peter 5:7 (cast it — He cares), Matthew 6:34 (today only), Psalm 94:19 (consolation that delights), John 14:27 (His peace, not the world’s), and 2 Timothy 1:7 (power, love, self-control).
When anxiety and depression walk together
They often do, and neither one means your faith is failing. Be as gentle with yourself as God is. If the heaviness is more than worry — if it settles in and stays — please talk to a doctor or counselor as well as praying. Both are wise.
A short prayer for anxiety
Lord, my mind is tired of circling. I bring You the whole tangle — the what-ifs, the replays, the 3am mathematics. Take each worry as I name it. Set Your peace like a guard at the door of my mind. Teach me to trust You with outcomes I cannot control. Quiet me with Your love tonight. You are in charge, and I am glad. Amen.
