Bible Verses for Betrayal
A stranger can’t betray you — only someone you let in can. A friend, a sister, a husband, a business partner. The shock of it rearranges your past as much as your present. Scripture takes betrayal seriously; some of its rawest pages were written from inside it.
Betrayal wounds deepest because it comes from inside the walls. Psalm 55:12 admits, “For it is not an enemy who insults me; that I could endure,” and Romans 12:19 hands justice back to God: “Vengeance is Mine; I will repay, says the Lord.”
For it is not an enemy who insults me; that I could endure. It is not a foe who rises against me; from him I could hide. But it is you, a man like myself, my companion and close friend. We shared sweet fellowship together; we walked with the crowd into the house of God.
Do not avenge yourselves, beloved, but leave room for God’s wrath. For it is written: “Vengeance is Mine; I will repay, says the Lord.” On the contrary, “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink. For in so doing, you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
Even my close friend whom I trusted, the one who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.
The LORD is near to the brokenhearted; He saves the contrite in spirit.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.

David wrote your psalm
Psalm 55:12-14 could have been written last week: “it is you, a man like myself, my companion and close friend… We shared sweet fellowship together; we walked with the crowd into the house of God.” God put that in the Bible so you’d know He takes it seriously.
What to do with the anger
Romans 12:19-21 does not ask you to pretend it didn’t matter. It asks you to hand the courtroom to God: “Vengeance is Mine; I will repay.” Forgiveness, when it comes, will be for your freedom — it does not require trust, and it does not require reunion.
A prayer for the betrayed
Lord, someone I trusted has hurt me, and I am still staggering from it. You know betrayal from the inside — a kiss in a garden. Take this wound and keep it from hardening into hatred. Give me wisdom about trust going forward. Handle the justice; hold my heart. Heal me at Your pace. You have never once failed me. Amen.
