Bible Verses and Prayers for My Child's Protection

From the first fever to the first solo drive to the move across the country, a mother’s prayer life never really retires. You cannot be everywhere your child goes — but you are not asked to be. These verses are for covering them when you can’t be there.

Praying for your child’s protection is a mother’s oldest instinct. Psalm 91:11 says, “For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways,” and Isaiah 54:13 promises, “all your sons will be taught by the LORD, and great will be their prosperity.”

Psalms 91:11

For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.

Isaiah 54:13

Then all your sons will be taught by the LORD, and great will be their prosperity.

Psalms 121:7-8

The LORD will guard you from all evil; He will preserve your soul. The LORD will watch over your coming and going, both now and forevermore.

Numbers 6:24-26

‘May the LORD bless you and keep you; may the LORD cause His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; may the LORD lift up His countenance toward you and give you peace.’

2 Thessalonians 3:3

But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one.

Proverbs 22:6

Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

Psalms 34:7

The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear Him, and he delivers them.

Isaiah 49:15-16

“Can a woman forget her nursing child, or lack compassion for the son of her womb? Even if she could forget, I will not forget you! Behold, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; your walls are ever before Me.

Psalms 4:8

I will lie down and sleep in peace, for You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.

Psalms 139:16

Your eyes saw my unformed body; all my days were written in Your book and ordained for me before one of them came to be.

A covering prayer for your daughter or son

Numbers 6:24-26 was given to be spoken over people — speak it over yours by name: “May the LORD bless you and keep you… may the LORD cause His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you… may the LORD lift up His countenance toward you and give you peace.”

When worry about them won’t quit

Some nights the worry is about their body; some nights it’s their mind or their choices. Either way, the remedy is the same exchange: name the fear, hand it over. Psalm 34:7 says, “The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear Him, and he delivers them.”

A prayer for my child’s protection

Lord, I place my child under Your wings today. Guard their going out and coming in, their body, mind, and heart. Surround them with good people and turn them from harm they cannot see. When I cannot be there, be there Yourself. Keep them safe, and keep my heart at peace trusting You. They are Yours before they are mine. Amen.
