Bible Verses for a Marriage in Trouble
Maybe it is silence at the dinner table, or the same argument on its hundredth round, or papers you are trying not to think about. Whatever shape the trouble takes, you do not have to pretend here. These verses are for the woman still fighting for her marriage — and for the one too tired to know how.
When a marriage is in trouble, Scripture neither pretends nor despairs. Ecclesiastes 4:12 says “a cord of three strands is not quickly broken,” and Jesus says in Matthew 19:26, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” God is still in the room.
And though one may be overpowered, two can resist. Moreover, a cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
If it is possible on your part, live at peace with everyone.
with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, and with diligence to preserve the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.
Bear with one another and forgive any complaint you may have against someone else. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which is the bond of perfect unity.
Cast your burden upon the LORD and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous be shaken.
Above all, love one another deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
And we know that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose.
God is within her; she will not be moved. God will help her when morning dawns.
Can God restore a broken marriage?
He can — that is an honest answer, not a slogan. “With God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26) is real, and so is the truth that restoration takes two hearts. Pray for yours to stay soft and his to turn, and let God be God with the outcome.
Praying through a separation
When you no longer share a roof, prayer is the one room you still share. Romans 12:18 sets the boundary of your part: “If it is possible on your part, live at peace with everyone.” Do your part faithfully; entrust his part to God.
How to pray when your marriage is falling apart
Start where the Psalms start — with the truth. “Cast your burden upon the LORD and He will sustain you” (Psalm 55:22). You do not need tidy words. Lament is a biblical prayer, and God is not offended by your honesty.
A prayer for a marriage in trouble
Lord, You see what this marriage has become, and You see what I still hope it could be. I cannot change another heart, so I bring You mine — my anger, my fear, my weariness. Teach me to love with patience and to speak with grace. Do what I cannot do. And whatever comes, hold me steady and never let me go. Amen.
